The best (and only) book I know of is _How Debuggers Work_ by
Jonathan Rosenberg, et. al. You could also take a look at Dave Hanson
(http://www.research.microsoft.com/~drh/) and Norman Ramsey's
(http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~nr/activities.html#debugging) work
in that area.
